About the Department

The Department of Information Technology at Government Engineering College, Barton hill was established in the academic year 1999, offering a four year B.Tech. course in Information Technology. M.Tech. Course in Information Technology with specialization in Network Engineering commenced from the academic year 2011-2012.

The Department lays strong emphasis on ensuring that the students have a thorough idea of core concepts. Further, the department focuses on nurturing the analytical abilities of students and exposes them to the latest technologies and equips them with industry-specific skills.

The students have been consistently among the toppers in the University and have gone on to achieve laurels in higher education, research and industry.

The faculty and staff of the department are well qualified and many of them are alumni of IITs and NITs. Currently we have 3 Ph.D holders in our faculty list. The department has well-equipped labs with state-of–the art technologies.

Program Educational Objectives

PEO 1

To provide students with a strong base in mathematics, scientific and engineering fundamentals necessary to solve complex engineering problems and to pursue higher studies.

PEO 2

To develop in students an ability to analyze and focus in the areas of Software Engineering, Computing Sciences , Information Engineering and Communication Engineering and also to become competent and innovative IT solution providers and entrepreneurs.

PEO 3

To expose the students to cutting edge technologies in different engineering and management fields, enabling them to contribute effectively in multidisciplinary areas, with excellent communication skills and leadership qualities.

PEO 4

To equip the students to become globally successful professionals and to instill in them a good sense of professional ethics and social concern.

Programme Outcomes

The Graduates Graduate students of Information Technology stream should have the following skills and abilities :

i	To apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.
ii	To design and conduct experiments in the field of Information Technology, interpret and analyze data and report results.
iii	To design Information systems, components and processes.
iv	To function in multidisciplinary teams.
v	To identify, formulate and solve problems in the field of Information Technology
vi	To have an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
vii	To communicate effectively in oral, written and graphical form.
viii	To possess the kind of broad education necessary to have an understanding of the impact of engineering solutions on the society and demonstrate an awareness of contemporary issues.
ix	To have recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in lifelong learning.
x	To possess a knowledge of contemporary issues
xi	To have the ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
